A weekend in Gréoux-les-Bains is rarely planned far ahead. You decide on a Thursday evening, you look at the forecast, and all that is left is to find somewhere to drop your bags. Here is how to choose between the hotels of the spa quarter and the quieter addresses up in the hills.
Sleeping at the foot of the baths
The spa quarter holds most of the graded hotels. Everything there is walkable: the baths, the casino and the terraces along the cours are five minutes from one another, which settles the parking question for the whole stay.

What about going a little further?
Fifteen minutes away by car, the villages of Saint-Martin-de-Brômes, Esparron-de-Verdon and Quinson offer another way to sleep: bed and breakfast in old stone houses, campsites by the water, gîtes for large families. That is also where you find the best ends of the day, when the light falls on the lake.
One tip if you are coming in July or August: book before you leave. For the rest of the year, improvising is still possible, and it is often the better season.
