People say “the Verdon” as though it were a single place. It is in fact a whole valley, from the gorges to the lakes, and it changes face completely depending on where you stop. Here is a short guide to choosing your own.
The lakes, if you want to settle somewhere
Esparron-de-Verdon and Quinson are the two easiest to reach from Gréoux. You can hire an electric boat without a licence, take the lower gorges for an hour, and stop in a creek that no road reaches. Petrol engines are banned there: that is what makes the place so quiet.
The villages, if you want to walk
Riez and its Roman columns, Valensole and its plateaux, Allemagne-en-Provence and its château: the area can also be seen on foot, from one village to the next. Here are a few sites and facilities nearby, exactly as the tourist office publishes them in Apidae.

When to come
July and August are magnificent, and very busy. May, June and September offer the same turquoise water with half the crowd, and temperatures that still allow an afternoon walk. In October, the colours alone are worth the trip.
